António Brás Monteiro is an expert in security and defence affairs, with a multidisciplinary background in strategic communication, international security policy, and institutional defence cooperation. He holds a degree in Communication Sciences from the Catholic University of Portugal and has completed advanced studies at leading institutions, including the European Security and Defence College, War Studies University, National Defence Institute, Portuguese Military University Institute, Delft University of Technology, the Institute of Police Sciences and Homeland Security, and the Portuguese National Security Office. He holds both EU and NATO Security Clearances, granted by the Portuguese National Security Authority.
António began his professional journey in corporate business within publicly traded family-owned companies, before transitioning to the security, intelligence, and defence sectors. He first served as a Liaison Officer at SolvX, a Brussels-based intelligence and security firm, where he supported sensitive multinational operations requiring high levels of confidentiality and discretion.
He later joined TEKEVER, a European defence technology group, where he spent seven years managing innovation-driven projects at the intersection of unmanned systems, ISR, and C2 technologies. His portfolio included European Defence Agency programmes, NATO Industrial Advisory Group studies, and European Commission H2020 security research initiatives in disaster resilience, counterterrorism, organised crime prevention, and border protection.
Currently, António serves as a Defence Expert for the European Commission under the EU Defence Innovation Scheme (EUDIS), advising SMEs funded by the European Defence Fund (EDF). His work focuses on strategic positioning, market and investment readiness, legal and IP strategy, execution capacity, and the dual-use commercialisation of cutting-edge defence technologies.
He is also EU & NATO Affairs Partner at IberianFalcata, a Portuguese boutique consultancy specialised in security and defence, where he supports strategic partnerships, institutional outreach, and industry engagement across European and transatlantic defence frameworks. In this capacity, he actively contributes to NATO Industrial Advisory Group (NIAG) studies, including in project leadership and management roles, helping shape standardisation, innovation, and capability development within the NATO industrial base.
António holds several governance and advisory roles within the European defence ecosystem. He is a Board Member of EuroDefense-Portugal and of the National Defence Course Auditors Association, and serves on the Advisory Boards of AED Cluster Portugal, IntellCorp and the Editorial Board of Segurança & Defesa. He is also Editor-at-Large and Special Correspondent for Portugal at European Security & Defence, the leading English-language publication on European defence affairs.
A frequent contributor to strategic debate, António has published analysis and opinion pieces in FORBES Portugal, Diário de Notícias, Segurança & Defesa, European Security & Defence, and in key Brussels-based media outlets such as EUobserver and EURACTIV, focusing on European strategic autonomy, industrial consolidation, and geopolitical dynamics.
Beyond his professional work, António is passionate about exploration and classic Land Rovers. He was editor-in-chief of two specialist magazines and aspires to complete an overland expedition retracing the route of David Livingstone. He also practises sports shooting and is a certified National Defence Auditor by the Portuguese Ministry of Defence.
